ACOUSTICS

This module explains the properties of sound waves, how the human hearing system works, what reverb is and the acoustic properties in an enclosed space. I have learned how to setup correctly a home studio, where to place my studio monitors inside a room and how to position them correctly to get the best stereo image possible. I also learned how to control reverb inside a room and why it is important to decouple speakers.

OUTCOME 1

This outcome focuses on the basic properties of a sound wave, it describes the different characteristics of a waveform. It also explains what material to use for absorbing reverb and how moisture or temperature can affect the acoustics of a room.

OUTCOME 2

Outcome 2 explains the human hearing system and the different parts of the human ear. I learnt about the main causes of hearing loss and how to prevent some of these causes. It explains the legislations when working in noisy environments and how long someone should be exposed to that noise.

OUTCOME 3

I found this outcome very useful for setting up a home studio, it explains how to place the speakers and how to treat a room with a long or too dry reverb time. It explains why you should decouple speakers and why  diffusers should be placed in front of the speakers.
